Roy Bittan
Roy joined Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band in Aug of 1974. He had responded to an ad in the Village Voice that was looking for a keyboardist who could play everything from “classical to Jerry Lee Lewis”. Over the course of 2 auditions (and beating out 30 other applicants), he got the job, replacing David Sancious
Nicknamed “The Professor” because (supposedly), he was the only member of the band with a high school diploma
Roy played the well known intro and synth part on Bon Jovi’s first hit “Runaway” in the capacity of a studio musician, as the band did not yet have a regular keyboard player. Roy met Jon Bon Jovi at the Power Station in N.Y. while Roy was making “Born in the U.S.A” with Bruce Springsteen. David Bryan subsequently joined the band and has now played the part in concert for over 30 years
