Mike Garson
Mike’s virtuostic style was developed primarily from studying Jazz. In the 1960’s he studied with Jazz powerhouses Lennie Tristano, Herbie Hancock, and Bill Evans.
Mike graduated from Brooklyn College in 1970 with a degree in music
In 1973, David Bowie offered Mike the keyboard position in his later Ziggy Stardust tours. He was played on the album “Alladin Sane” and is especially remembered for his extended piano solo in the title track which, for a rock song, had a fully avant-garde jazz feel
Mike has toured with rock bands Smashing Pumpkins, and Nine Inch Nails. He is, however, more oriented towards jazz today
A biography was released in the U.K. in 2015 entitled *Bowie’s Piano Man: The Life of Mike Garson” written by fellow pianist Clifford Slapper
